Overview

"ZedNext" refers the next version of the DAISY Standard (officially the ANSI/NISO Z39.86 Specification for the Digital Talking Book).

The DAISY Consortium has begun a requirements gathering process to determine if changes to the DAISY/NISO (Z39.86) Specification are necessary to more effectively meet all of these wide and varied user needs. "Users" include individuals who read material in accessible media, producers, publishers, educators, information providers, distributors, archivists, technology developers, and any other groups involved in the use, creation and/or distribution of accessible and/or multimedia content.

The Requirements Gathering process is open from October 31, 2007 through March 31, 2008 (now officially closed; comments may still be entered).

This wiki is set up for editing by the Z3986 Advisory Committee to examine the requirements that have been submitted.

Renaming the Standard

DAISY has a huge reputation as "the Specifications for the Digital Talking Book". It would be best to find a way to keep that recognition and yet explain more fully that we are about accessibility of ALL types of digital content.
