Summary
This is the report from ZedAI WG Iteration 4.
The iteration time span was 27 May 2008 - 2 october 2009. Iteration deliverables were initially defined in the Iteration 3 report, and were revised later due to a number of unforeseen circumstances.
Deliverables Report
The main deliverable of this iteration was a a second public working draft of the Z39.86 Authoring and Interchange Framework. This has been completed, and is available at http://www.daisy.org/z3986/2010/
The published version of the specification, profiles, features and framework is of an early access nature, and contains several incomplete areas, and several yet unresolved issues. The WG tracks all lower level issues at the GoogleCode issue tracker.
The following items constitute the major artifacts added during this iteration:
- A first draft of the Periodicals profile
- A first draft of the Content Selection feature
- A pan-profile revision of the approach to linking (as outlined in ZedAI_Linking_Proposal)
- Extension to the documentation of elements using inlined shorter and extended samples (much of the actual samples remain to be added, but the framework is now in place).
Risk analysis
- RDF/a
- The future of RDF/a is currently discussed within the W3C as part of the HTML5 effort. We need to track this development closely to make sure that our use of this technology is aligned with the mainstream. Risk-level: medium
- Timing vis-a-vis W3C
- The XForms 1.1 and MathML3 specificiations, on which ZedAI depends, are still not final RECs. While the respective charters are in alignment with the ZedAI schedule, CR stages are known to sometimes become elongated Risk-level: medium
Resolved Items from Iteration 3 Issue Log
The WG henceforth tracks all issues at the GoogleCode issue tracker.
Deliverables for the next iteration
Iteration 4 time span: October 5 2009 - XX November 2009
Main deliverable: a third public working draft of the Z39.86 Authoring and Interchange Framework, primarily based on internal reviews of the current drafts. The goal is to at the end of this iteration have profiles that can be exposed to a larger audience for testing.
Overarching
- MODS, ONIX, WIPO and metadata
- As proposed by WIPO as well as members of the DAISY board, we need to research how to integrate ONIX into the metadata solution, to be prepared should a firm proposal to integrate ONIX land on our doorstep.
- Role Module
- As W3C is no longer maintaining the XHTML Role Module, we need to define a replacement. Note that there is an impact on ZedDist as well (as semantic annotations were planned to be introduced in SMIL, NCX and Content). Ideally, the defined replacement is usable as-is in both ZedAI and ZedDist. Integrated into this item (and related to the Risk analaysis above) is to define a mechanism for binding role values to vocabularies (CURIEs? SPARQL AbbreviatedName? Other?)
- Revisit List modules
- See ZedAI_Lists_Proposal
- Spec
- core modules and other inclusion matters
- Continuation of periodicals profile
- The 0.1 draft is immature, much thinking and design remains
- Integration of SVG
- experts form ViewPlus are helping out with advice regarding SVG integration. See also Issue 9
- Reduce Issue count
If time allows
- Module and Element-level documentation
- Add as much as time allows of the documentation of modules and elements
- Drafts of poetry, drama (inc revisit of D), letter modules
- Research on computer code markup feature (possibly based on DocBook5)
- RDF ontology for elements in our namespace
- Investigate the utility of an RDF ontology that describes inheritance relationships of our element and attribute pool. This could be used in schema documentation, as well as referenced from Resource Directories for processing agents to discover fallbacks at the element level.
- Profile Composition Guidelines
- A first draft of an informative profile composition guidelines document is produced
