Confirmation of Date and Time for Next Call

The next conference call will be September 5, 0900 Eastern USA.

NISO Update
(Lead person: George)

George reviewed the August 14 conference call discussion with Karen Wetzel. It is too soon to pull in the needed participation for a detailed spec revision by the October F2F. We should be able to get our revision activity approved in September but there is not enough time to expect NISO member participation in October. As NISO members join our work after the October DAISY F2F, they will need to be updated. George will confirm with Karen that decision making can be done at the DAISY meeting, since a major principal guiding the NISO reorganization is to not slow things down. Karen will join this group on the September 5 call.

Development of London F2F Agenda

ACTION: George to send revised Call for Revision Consideration document to Karen.

ACTION: Lynn and George will forward conference registration details to the Zed mailing list.

ACTION: George will ask the Braille in DAISY group to summarize and send proposed element additions to the Zed list prior to the end of September.

ACTION: Marisa and Markus will send a detailed one-day agenda for discussion of modularization to George by September 3, and also decide who will be the long term leader of the Mod Squad.

ACTION: George will respond to Al Gillman regarding SMIL accessibility.

It was agreed to spend one day on modularization, and that any maintenance on the standard should be handled outside of this meeting.

The second day will include long-range planning. Since the Braille in Daisy group is proposing some new elements, the mechanism for extensions and expanding the tag set are topics that need coverage. If we have a list of the elements they are considering, it will help determine whether an extension or revision to the spec is involved.

George had a question from Al Gillman whether we are assessing SMIL with respect to accessibility. Marisa confirmed that DAISY concerns had been discussed with the SMIL group. Several hours on the second day will be allocated to Marisa to review the SMIL specification. All attendees are urged to review the SMIL document in detail prior to the F2F and prepare detailed questions.
