There were no additions to the proposed agenda.

Confirmation of Date and Time for Next Call

GK proposed that the next call be held on 2005 November 9.

Linus Ericson to join Advisory Committee

Through a unanimous vote, Linus Ericson of the Swedish Library of Talking Books and Braille is invited to join the z3986 Advisory Committee. His name will be placed on the web site.

Action items from last meeting

We received the revised specification from Cynthia Hodgson of NISO. The revised spec has been placed on the DAISY web site, and is in synch with the NISO xhtml and pdf version of the specification.

The RoadMap to DAISY Implementation is complete and posted on the DAISY web site. As soon as tools are available, the RoadMap will include a recommendation that dtbook is used for text. Many DAISY producers are currently using dtbook now. Dave has worked on a demonstration including a stylesheet that translates xhtml to dtbook. This solution does not address one possible solution route, of swapping ids for uptranslation. Another route is to preserve the dtbook and element values to establish a guarantee for uptransformation. The reason for the "round-trip"; it is possible to add features as the file is uptranslated.

From the above conversation on translation, it was noted that Braille producers are using MS Word to edit publisher files. Duxbury is being used in the states as an editor which is not its intended function. This conversation has been taken out of the committee and off-line, GK invited Lloyd to participate in the October 12 solutions forum.

First draft of process for issues, errata and future directions is posted on the temporary web site, www.daisy.org/temp/Laurie/issues

Changes for Issues Process and Web Site

ACTION: Laurie to implement suggested changes to web site

The following changes will be made to the temporary Issues web site:

  1. All issues, regardless of status, will be available on the web site.
  2. Five sidebar choices will allow the web site user to view All issues regardless of status, or choose an issue by status, i.e., Submitted, Dismissed, Open or Resolved.
  3. The Issues section will be moved from the restricted to open area of the site.
  4. The index.php issues page will be updated to reflect changes in process.
  5. Issues will be entered directly in the database.
  6. An automatic email will be sent to the submitter of the issue.

After a three month trial, the site will be placed in the Standard/Issues area of the site and open to all.

Zed Advisory Committee f2f meeting

ACTION: George to send Urakawa documents to Advisory Committee

The date and time of the next Zed Advisory Committee face-to-face meeting has not been determined. Suggestions for the meeting place included Denmark and the UK which offered to host the meeting. Florida was suggested since another meeting was taking place during January. The dates tenatively agreed upon were the last week in January.

Items on agenda, but not covered

     Expanded documentation

	   - In 2002 release, we had a document to explain where and how elements could be used.
	   - What is the correct approach to provide this type of information?
	   - Can this be auto generated?d

     f2f Meeting

-The time and place of the f2f meeting needs to be decided.

-If we do have a f2f, the MathML-in-DAISY working group would like to better
understand the direction the Committee is thinking about for Zed Next. The
switch statement in SMIL is of particular interest. They may be willing to
join us for part of the time.

     Issues

	   - (ISSUE) Neil Bernstein's issue submission about an error in the spec
regarding limiting the codex being used.

	   - (ISSUE) In this corner wearing blue trunks we have RelaxNG and in that corner
wearing green trunks we have XML Schema.
