Welcome to NLS as an Associate Member of the DAISY Consortium

George informed the committee that NLS had joined the DAISY Consortium as an Associate Member.

API meeting in Tokyo

The meeting is confirmed for May 18-20. George read the list of expected attendees. There were approximately 25. Discussion about the interests of the group and the scope of the meeting followed. Markus is putting together the agenda for the API meeting. He will post the agenda to the group and welcomes comments.

Status of 2005 version of the standard

On April 21, ANSI approved the specification. It is no an official standard. Michael has made edits to the document and has submitted it to NISO for editing Michael has not yet responded to the two comments, but will do so.

Following the conference call, Lloyd informed us that the specification will come back to Michael for any final modifications. It is at that time that we can make the suggested changes.

DAISY Becoming the Maintenance Agency

George informed the committee that DAISY had applied for voting membership in NISO. George would be the primary and Markus the second for voting. George has also submitted a draft letter to the NISO Board applying to become the Maintenance Agency. It is expect that this will be presented to the NISO Board on May 11 or 12.

Web site for 2002 Version of the Standard

The recommendation of the Committee was to leave the current NLS Web site as the location for the 2002 version of the standard. Assuming that the DAISY Consortium becomes the Maintenance Agency, the Web site for 2005 would move to the DAISY Web site. The things on the NLS Web site would be:

Web site for the 2005 Version

Long discussion about the correct approach for the Web site and references for the 2005 version. The major point was that we should do everything possible to avoid confusion about both the 2002 and the 2005 versions of the standard. Suggestions were to modify the 2005 version so that references were to the DAISY Web site. This includes location of DTDs and namespace references.

ACTION: Lloyd will gather up the DTDs for 2005 and get them to Markus.
ACTION: Lloyd will contact Michael to check on the possibility of revisions to the 2005 standard to make references to the DAISY locations.
ACTION: George and Markus to get URLs identified that will need to go into the standard. Note: this was sent out in email following the conference call.
ACTION: We will determine who would be responsible to make changes to the spec, once returned from the NISO editor.
