Issues (Bug) Tracking

The DAISY Consortium has been selected by the National Information Standards Organization (NISO) as the official Maintenance Agency for the DAISY/NISO Standard, officially, the ANSI/NISO Z39.86, Specifications for the Digital Talking Book. As the Maintenance Agency, the Consortium will track and resolve issues, errata, and future directions for the Standard.

This area of the Web site is devoted to tracking issues that arise from the DAISY/NISO Standard. All issues, regardless of the issue status, are visible from this Web site. In addition, all "Resolved" issues may be viewed on either the Errata or Future Directions pages of this web site.

Issues may be viewed by one of four possible status: Submitted, Dismissed, Issued, or Resolved. On the local navigation menu (or sidebar), choose the status of the issue to view a list of all issues with that status.

How to Submit an Issue

Please do not submit an issue that has been previously submitted! To ensure that your issue has not been previously submitted, review a list of "All Issues" that have been submitted to the Committee.

Issues with the Standard, DTDs, other documentation, etc. may be submitted by anyone. To submit an issue, complete the form available on the link on the sidebar menu, "Submit an Issue".

How to Track an Issue

A listing of all issues, or issues by status, are available through the links on the sidebar menu. Choose the title of an issue from any list for detailed information about the issue. Once an issue is resolved, the Resolution Description explains if the resolution is listed as an Errata or Future Direction, details of the resolution, and the reference number of that Errata or Future Direction.

Issue Status

An issue may have one of four statuses. Once an issue is submitted, it automatically receives a status of "Submitted." The issue is reviewed and the status changed to either "Dismissed", if the issue is not related to the Standard, or "Open" if the issue requires investigation and resolution. Issues with a status of "Open" are assigned by the Committee for further investigation and resolution.

Once the Committee resolves the issue either as an Errata or as a Future Direction, the issue receives a status of "Resolved", and may be viewed on either the Errata or Future Directions pages of this web site.

Resolution Descriptions

The type of the issue determines the path of issue resolution. An issue may arise with the DAISY/NISO Standard, a DTD, Structure Guidelines, sample content or other documentation.

Issues with the DAISY/NISO Standard or Specification, receive an Issue Type of "Specification" and are resolved by issuing a Future Direction of the Standard. The issue receives a status of "Resolved" and is also available in the Future Directions Web page of this site. This change will be reflected in the next version of the DAISY/NISO Standard.

Issues with a DTD receive an issue type of "DTD", and are resolved by issuing a new version of the DTD and an Errata explaining the change. The issue receives a status of "Resolved" and is also available on the Errata Web page of this site. This change will be reflected in the next version of the DTD.

Issues with the Structure Guidelines, sample content, or other documentation are resolved by issuing a new version of the documentation, and an Errata explaining the change. The issue receives a status of "Resolved" and is also available on the Errata Web page of this site. This change will be reflected in a documentation change to the Structure Guidelines, sample content, or other documentation.
