John Freese, our design engineer here at the Transforming Braille project, recently spoke at the NLS Braille Summit conference in Boston, USA. You can find his talk about 48 minutes in to the video embedded below.
Transforming Braille Blog
A video presentation is now available which sets out the goals of the Transforming Braille project.
This currently only has English subtitles, but a Spanish translation is being worked on.
We have added a Microsoft Excel format spreadsheet to our documentation section which gives information on almost sixty braille actuation technologies that we have found during our research phase of the Transforming Braille project.
For each technology, the spreadsheet gives a contact name, website, brief description of the technology involved, and information on the inventor. From the list of locations you will see that this research activity is very much a global endeavour.
Please note that the information contained in this spreadsheet is correct to the best of our knowledge. Any corrections should be sent to the project manager and we will update the spreadsheet as soon as possible.
There's a great article on reducing the cost of braille display technology, entitled "Connecting the Dots: A Brighter Spin on the Future of Braille" in the January issue of AFB Access World.
This features an interview with our own project director Steven Rothstein regarding the work we're doing in the Transforming Braille project.
