Bones AG recently announced the addition of a new member to the Milestone family, the Milestone M112 Ace media player - note taker that comes with the same simplicity as the Milestone 112. Available in Europe since October 20th, 2014.
We decided to also highlight the most sophisticated device of the Milestone family, Milestone 312. This is a credit card size portable media player that helps visually impaired and blind individuals overcome information access barriers. Milestone 312 is furnished with a Voice Recorder, Music Player and high-quality Text-to-Speech voices. It also provides an Audio Book Player, Radio, Clock, and Alarm.
Users can record with the integrated microphone or with an external microphone. They can listen to their recordings with the powerful built-in speaker or over headphones. With the help of the built-in text-to-speech software from Acapela, Milestone 312 converts and reads text files. Milestone 312 plays NLS structured audio books as well as other formats, including content from Audible.com, Bookshare, and music from your iTunes Library. Milestone 312 can increase and decrease playback or reading speed to conform to your preferred speed.
The following formats are supported: MP3, M4A, M4, M4V, AAC, WMA, WAV, TXT, DAISY 2.02, DAISY 3.0, DOC, AA/AAX and unprotected EPUB 2. A short overview video can be found on YouTube.
Kolibre Vadelma is an embedded Linux digital talking book player for the Raspberry Pi platform. It uses open source software, such as the Kolibre libraries for reading DAISY books from offline sources or connecting to DAISY Online services.
