Introduction
These guidelines recommend properties of DAISY SVG viewing software.
Required features
These are the minimum feature set needed to assure access to DAISY content by most people with print disabilities.
List of required functionality
- Viewer must produce a faithful image of the SVG file.
- Viewer must permit viewport to be sized by user.
- Viewer must permit zooming and panning.
- Viewer must permit linking to another SVG file.
- Viewer must speak text spans on user request - typically mouse down.
- Viewer must speak graphic object title on user action - typically mouse down.
- Viewer must speak selected object description on some convenient user action.
- Viewer must speak figure title on some convenient user action.
- Viewer must speak figure description on some convenient user action.
- Viewer must enable display of spoken information by refreshable braille.
- Viewers must permit user control over contrast, background, other appearance.
Desirable Features
This feature list includes features that can enhance accessibility for some users but is not absolutely essential to access.
List of desired functionality
- Viewer should permit spoken information to be browsed.
- Viewer should display spoken information visually with user-selectable font.
- Viewer should permit synthetic speech or human recording.
- Viewer should permit creation of tactile copy for any view of SVG graphic.
- Viewer should permit interaction with tactile copy for any view of SVG graphic.
- Viewer should enable use of pre-made tactile graphics with SVG files for any view of SVG graphic.
