How to Join the DAISY Consortium

The DAISY Consortium offers "full" or "associate" membership for libraries, colleges, and nonprofit organizations serving persons who are blind or who have other print disabilities.
The Consortium offers commercial companies the opportunity to join as "friends" of the DAISY Consortium.

How to become a Member or a Friend

If your organization or company wishes to join in any of the above capacities, send your application, both in writing and via email, to the President of the DAISY Consortium. Use the contact information provided on the DAISY Membership Application Form.

Please review the Articles of Association or Regulations for Friends when applying, to make sure that you fully accept the rules and regulations of the consortium.

Full Membership

The admission of Full Members will be decided by resolution of the General Meeting by open ballot. The President will decide as to the admission of Associate Members and Friends of the Consortium. The admissions have to be ratified by the General Meeting.

Full membership should be considered by:

  • Organizations that want to drive the standard and implementation forward.
  • Organizations dedicated to promoting the DAISY standard
  • Large libraries serving many people
  • Libraries interested in developing new technologies
  • Coalitions of libraries representing a geographical region
  • Coalitions of libraries representing a language group

Several organizations which represent a geographical region or language group may collaborate, combining their resources to become a Full Member. These organizations act and speak with one voice within the Consortium. This makes it possible for several libraries to work cooperatively and join the DAISY Consortium as a single Full Member.

Initial Joining Fee: $30,000
All previously paid membership fees will be subtracted from this initial amount
Fee: $26,250 annually

Reduced Membership Fees for Organizations in Developing Countries

In April 2006 the DAISY Board approved an enabling Associate membership fee structure for organizations in developing countries, based on the World Bank classifications.

The Associate Member fee of USD 2,625 (as of 1 January 2007, and forward) is reduced for Associate Members in countries with World Bank classifications as follows:

  1. high income; 35: USD 2,625 (100%)
  2. upper middle income; 3: USD 1,575 (60%)
  3. lower middle income; 8: USD 787.50 (30%)
  4. low income; 6: USD 393.75 (15%)

This restructuring of membership fees for Associate Members promotes membership in the DAISY Consortium for organizations which previously may have been unable to join and contribute to the developmental work and mission of the Consortium.

The DAISY Consortium grant program for developing countries is replaced by this supportive and enabling initiative.
