Amis crashes immediately on my machine.

in

Hi,
Each time I try to start Amis 3.0rc1, I immediately receive the standard windows "this application has encountered a problem and must close" dialog, followed by an offer to tell Microsoft about the problem.
The machine is a Toshiba Satellite A200, running Windows XP Pro sp3, Internet Explorer 8, and all current patches.
Its default sapi 5 voice is RealSpeak Solo Karen (as provided by Jaws).
Other sapi applications appear to work fine.
This is the first version of Amis I have tried on this machine.
I have attached amlog.txt, and am not sure what other information it would be helpful for me to provide. If I can run any other tests or whatever to try to track down what the problem is, I'd be happy to.
Any advice much appreciated.

Re: Amis crashes immediately on my machine.

Hello,

Thanks for the bug report. If you could email me off-list with the AMIS log, that would be great (what you sent was a different log file for an internal component we use, called Ambulant. Confusing, I know...). The AMIS log file is in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AMIS\settings\amisLog.txt .

Have you also installed the Jaws scripts that come with AMIS? The installer should have asked you if you wanted them. If not, you can get them separately here:

Its not Jaws related.

Hi, This doesn't seem to be Jaws related as the same problem occurs with System Access To Go. I tried uninstalling, clearing out all the AMIS settings I could find, then reinstalling. The first time after that I heard SAPI voices saying AMIS, and Sidebar has focus. There was also a sound which sounded like the Internet Explorer page load sound, then the program crashed. From then on it crashed immediately each time I ran it. The only other thing I can think of is that its possibly related to IE8?

Thanks for the additional

Thanks for the additional information. Do you think you could email me the log file for AMIS? It's located here:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AMIS\settings\amisLog.txt

Thanks

RealSpeak TTS

Do you have any RealSpeak TTS with "Dri40" in the file names?

NB: I have been having problems with a few applications when I try ad select the RealSpeak TTS with "Dri40" voices. The Application crashes.

I am using RealSpeak solo.

I do have RealSpeak solo 4.0 nstalled, as supplied with Jaws 8 and 9.
There is no dri40 in the filename, but Its probably the same thing.
I tried changing the default voice to ESpeak, but the program still crashes. (although 3.0rc2 seems to last a bit longer before crashing, you can actually start to navigate around the program, it seems to crash after about 15 seconds or so, I got part way down the file menu.
It seems to take the same time to crash whether I use ESpeak or one of the RealSpeak voices.
The realspeak voices work ok in other self-voicing applications, and I use them quite successfully on my iPod nano via iTunes.

log emailed.

Hi,
I've just emailed the log to you.
I hope that helps.
Regards
Aaron
