DTBook->DAISY3 fails

I have a large file that comes out of Word. I want to get a text only DAISY book and the "Save as DAISY" full pipeline in Word takes a very long time because of the mp3 file generation. The "obvious" solution is to save the Word doc as an XML file and then run one of the DTBook->DAISY 3 text only translators. The XSL one specifically says it doesn't handle math, but the other should. However, the other translator dies in generating the SMIL files (can't open output SMIL file smilFile1.sml, which indeed doesn't seem to exist). In addition to this, it appeared never to run MathDaisy so the document would be invalid even if it did finish running (I think the SML file generation has to come after running MathDaisy). This was with whatever the current download is on April 9, 2010.

Same result without Math

Hi, I have the the same error message from Daisy 3 Text-Only although I don't have any math in the book. Actually it is a very simple novel, not even very large. The XSLT version is able to produce the Text-Only Daisy 3 from the same DTBook file. Päivi

Send me the input file

Send me the input file offline and I'll take a look at why you'd be getting that error. You can e-mail to jpritchett AT rfbd DOT org. James

Hi James, I have sent you a file. Regards, Päivi

Neil: Per the documentation,

Neil: Per the documentation, the us_rfbd_textOnlyDtbCreator transformer (the non-XSL one) also does not handle MathML -- it's still Beta and that is on the development to-do list. James

Known bug: spaces in output paths

I have found that there is a bug in the transformer that causes the "can't open output SMIL file" error if you have any spaces in the output path. This will go on the to-be-repaired list. Meanwhile, the workaround is to remove spaces from your paths. James
