DAISY to PEF

Forums:
Hi, I'm very interested in this project because I'm currently working on a very similar project. I was wondering if it will be possible to translate into contracted braille. Bert

Hi Bert, As you know, the Daisy Pipeline is a collaborative open source project, and there are organisations interested in continuing the development of the DTBook to PEF scripts. I will continue to develop these scripts to meet the needs of my employer, i.e. the layout framework and the Swedish translation rules. Contracted braille is not as big an issue in Sweden as it is in many other countries. Global collaboration is vital when it comes to braille, because all regions have different requirements. It would be impossible for me to implement a translation for other regions. However, I would be happy to assist anyone that wants to integrate with this framework. For example, an exciting project would be to integrate this work with the Liblouis translator, which supports contraction and also many languages. This was discussed in preparation for Pipeline 2, see the minutes: http://code.google.com/p/daisy-pipeline/wiki/ConCall_20091215 In other words, there is currently no plan to support contracted braille that I know of, but if there is a need for development of these scripts, I will do what I can to help.
