Daisy 3 books are displayed in my Internet Browser and not AMIS
Hi there,
Ive just installed AMIS on my laptop and its doing something strange with XML files. Currently if I open a Daisy 3 book then AMIS appears to try and open the XML file with whatever app is associated with XML files in XP. So at the moment it ends up displaying the content in Firefox and nothing is displayed in AMIS. The audio works fine but I cant for the life of me figure out why AMIS isnt displaying correctly. DAisy 2 books work fine.
Thanks,
enda

Hi Enda, AMIS embeds Internet
Hi Enda,
AMIS embeds Internet Explorer -- my best guess is that IE is passing off the file load request to whatever application is configured to handle XML files. What happens if you change the filetype association so that IE handles XML files?
DAISY 3 books use DTBook XML for the text content, and DAISY 2.02 uses XHTML. This is why you only notice the problem with DAISY 3.
This won't be an issue in AMIS 3.1 since XML files will be transformed for proper display in IE. However, this does impact files containing Math ML (which I believe you're interested in) -- the Math ML islands are transformed into their fallback images. AMIS doesn't support Math ML anyway, so there's no loss of quality for our users, but if you wanted to preserve the math markup, you could alter the XSLT files to do something other than insert the image fallback.

Ah thats it!
Hi Marisa,
Yeah I did recently switch the default application associated with XML files from IE, however, I've since switched it back and unfortunatlety it's still not working. When IE is selected as the default program for XML files, and I open a DAISY 3 book in AMIS, it just launches IE which appears to be trying to open the main DAISY XML file. I still cant get the visual content displayed in AMIS though. Any ideas? This is on an XP machine by the way, and i havn't built AMIS from source on this machine, just installed it.
Thanks for the heads up on the Math content also, much appreciated.
Cheers,
enda

Huh, perhaps AMIS is trying to launch the text file as an external document. Could you send me the book and I'll check it out? If it's under 25MB, just email it to me, otherwise use our FTP. I'll send details.
Thanks
Marisa
AMIS and IE
Hey Marisa,
unfortunatley this is happening with every Daisy 3 book I have, including all the examples from the Daisy homepage and many others, so I dont think it's related to a specific book. I've uninstalled and then reinstalled AMIS to no avail, Ive also tried running it in compatibility mode but to no avail. Every time I open a Daisy 3 book AMIS launches IE and tries to open the XML file, nothing is displayed in AMIS itself.
Could it be a registry problem? Or could it be an update to IE that's causing the problem maybe? It's very strange.

Can you run AMIS Debug and
Can you run AMIS Debug and send me the log file via email? It will be in one of two places:
Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AMIS\settings\amisLog.txt
Windows Vista:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\AMIS\settings\amisLog.txt
In this file, I can see what type of book AMIS thinks you are reading, and whether it thinks that the links should be launched externally.
