pipeline 2 : smil not found

Forums:

Hello,

I'm trying the new pipeline 2 but I can't reach any good result.

The book is a Daisy 2.02 and it passed validation.
These are the command line arguments used (windows XP) :

"C:\Program Files\pipeline2\daisy-pipeline\dp2.bat" -s daisy202-to-epub3 -t href=file:E:\AUTRES\4445\ncc.html,output=file:E:\AUTRES\4445\ePub,mediaoverlay=true

This is my best result : the transformer can read the ncc.html file but fails to open smil files.

Can you help me resolve this problem ?

Regards.

Roberto.

The issue may come from the values of the "href" and "output" options, which must be valid file URIs. They should typically have the form:

file:/path-segment/path-segment/file.extension

In your case, it seems you forgot the first slash character after the "file:" URI scheme, then the path must be separated by the URI-standard forward slash instead of the Windows backward slash.

Please try the following:

"C:\Program Files\pipeline2\daisy-pipeline\dp2.bat" -s daisy202-to-epub3 -t href=file:/E:/AUTRES/4445/ncc.html,output=file:/E:/AUTRES/4445/ePub,mediaoverlay=true

Don't hesitate to report back if it does not work!
Romain.

Hello,

Sorry for the delay.
Your command line seems to work but I got another kind of message : "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space".
Full message is below.

We modified the dp2.bat file (see below) in order to return different answers : you can read a command "echo toto" : no value is returned.

The "out of memory" error may happen when processing medium to large documents. Some Java Virtual Machines (JVM) put restrictions on the total amount of memory available on the heap.

You can for instance tell the JVM to let the heap grow to 512 MB by adding the option -Xmx512m to the java command line (right after %JAVA% in the batch script).

As for your "echo toto", I'm not a batch script expert but I think it's because echoing has been disabled with the "@echo off" instruction.

Romain.

Yes, we tried to add -Xmx1024m and -Xms512m.
We got another result but it is still an error message :

OK. Another person reported the same error in another thread. We'll investigate the issue and get back to you.

Thanks, Romain.

Hello Romain,

I installed the Daisy Pipeline 2 1.0.1 to replace pipeline 2 1.0 on my xp platform.
The error looks to be the same.

We also work with W7 platforms. Do you need me to try it ?
I did not try at home with Debian linux. Can it help you if I try and report ?

Regards.

Roberto.

Yes, it would be great if you could try on Windows 7 (on Debian too if you want, although the laucher script is different and you'll certainly not face the same issue).

Thanks!
Romain.

Hi Romain,

The Daisy Pipeline 2 v 1.0.1 works with Debian Linux. I copied the sample command line from the WIKI and tests were made with the sample books in the pipeline sample folder

With Windows 7 :
The log indicates that a smil is not valid (the Daisy202 in the pipeline sample folder.)
The same error occured with another book.
Both books are valid.

My command :
dp2.bat -s daisy202-to-epub3 -t href=file:C:/pipeline2_1_0_1/samples/daisy202/dontworrybehappy/ncc.html,output=file:C:/pipeline2_1_0_1/samples/202toepub3,mediaoverlay=true

Hi Roberto.

I can reproduce your error in Windows 7. The problem you're having is because of the syntax you're using for the file: URIs. File URIs, according to RFC1738[1] must always start with "file://":
fileurl = "file://" [ host | "localhost" ] "/" fpath

The "correct way"[2] for Windows partitions is to add a third slash as well, for instance "file:///C:/Users/user/daisy202/ncc.html". The daisy202-to-epub3 script will also accept a single slash though, so "file:/C:/Users/user/daisy202/ncc.html" is also ok. (A single slash also works in Linux/OSX).

This works for me:
dp2.bat -s daisy202-to-epub3 -t href=file:///C:/pipeline2_1_0_1/samples/daisy202/dontworrybehappy/ncc.html,output=file:///C:/pipeline2_1_0_1/samples/202toepub3,mediaoverlay=true

I'll be adding a better error message for problematic URIs in a future version of the script - this error message is pretty cryptic at first glance. For now, I added a note about file: URIs on the module homepage[3].

Hope this helps!

Regards
Jostein

Hi Jostein,

I tried your command line with 3 slashes and it works.
I used 3 slashes too in Debian (may be it works with only one !)

I will try with an XP plateform and I will report issues.

Thanks for your help.

Roberto.

Hello,

Sorry for the delay.

I tested pipeline 2 1.0.1 with an XP platform.

It works !

Here is my command line. The command given by Jostein :

dp2.bat -s daisy202-to-epub3 -t href=file:///C:/pipeline2_1_0_1/samples/daisy202/dontworrybehappy/ncc.html,output=file:///C:/pipeline2_1_0_1/samples/202toepub3,mediaoverlay=true

-----------------------------------------------------------
I tried also the command line via editor on windows 7 : the command line is a bit different. The answer is :

dp2.bat -s daisy202-to-epub3 -t href=file:/C:/pipeline2_1_0_1/samples/daisy202/dontworrybehappy/ncc.html,output=file:/C:/pipeline2_1_0_1/samples/202toepub3,mediaoverlay=true
Process ended with exit code=0
----------------------------------------------------------

It seems the fastest results comes with a linux plateform.

Regards.

Roberto.
