Is DAISY a Contender?
A better way to read, and a better way to publish is needed.

It is DAISY

For libraries serving persons with print disabilities, there is nothing that is even a close second choice for collection development, future-proofing, and alternatives for distribution.

But, what about mainstream publishing?

  1. XML at the heart of the textual content document is a solid basis for adoption in the future.
  2. We expect that supported XML will move into the mainstream of semantically rich XML used in publishing.
  3. We have a few examples of full text, full audio, and images within DAISY, and this will need to become pervasive if we are to prove that DAISY is a better way to read.
  4. Video will need to be included as an option; not only embedded video, but video that is synchronized with text and audio.
  5. Finally, publishers will need to understand that their content cannot be held prisoner in proprietary systems and that DAISY is a better way to publish.
