It is DAISY
For libraries serving persons with print disabilities, there is nothing that is even a close second choice for collection development, future-proofing, and alternatives for distribution.
But, what about mainstream publishing?
- XML at the heart of the textual content document is a solid basis for adoption in the future.
- We expect that supported XML will move into the mainstream of semantically rich XML used in publishing.
- We have a few examples of full text, full audio, and images within DAISY, and this will need to become pervasive if we are to prove that DAISY is a better way to read.
- Video will need to be included as an option; not only embedded video, but video that is synchronized with text and audio.
- Finally, publishers will need to understand that their content cannot be held prisoner in proprietary systems and that DAISY is a better way to publish.
