F

File
A generic term for a logical storage unit on a storage medium. A computer file (a data segment with a defined beginning and end) normally resides on storage mediums such as hard disks, CD-ROMs, etc.
File Extension
In most operating systems, a file extension is one or several letters at the end of a file name. Filename extensions usually follow a period (dot) and indicate the type of information stored in the file. For example, in the file name EDIT.COM, the extension is COM, which indicates that the file is a command file. In Microsoft Windows, some of the common system files have the extensions .ini, .dll and .ocx. Files that conform to any of the Web Standards for hypertext have the extension .html or .htm. Depending on the operating system, the punctuation separating the extension from the rest of the filename may or may not be considered part of the extension itself.

Full text and some audio
DTB with structure, complete text and limited audio. The marked up text file contains the structure and the complete text of the book. Audio files are recorded for only some portions of the book. The end user can navigate through the text. This type of DAISY book would be particularly useful for materials such as a dictionary, where the only recorded audio would be the pronunciations of each of the dictionary entries.
