- Bandwidth
- The maximum transfer capability of a digital connection or within a digital system. Maximum speed (rate) at which information can be transferred from one point to another or from input to output in a computer system/process.
- Bit
- A binary digit; the smallest unit of digital information; there are 1,000 bits in a kilobit and one million bits in a megabit.
- Bit Depth
- The resolution available to assign a value to the recorded samples. To maximize the bit depth and achieve a better sounding recording, signal input levels should be kept close to digital maximum. Low resolution results in a "grainy" sound, that also contains quantization noise.
- Bit Rate
- Bit rate denotes the average number of bits that one second of audio data will consume. It is the ratio of the number of bits that are transferred between devices in a specified amount of time, typically one second. It is a measure of the units of information being transferred over time; the bit rate of a CD quality stereo signal is 1.4 Mbit/second; the North American telephone system bit rate is 56 kbit/s.Bit rate is the same as "data rate", "data transfer rate" and "bit time".
- Book Information
- In MyStudio PC this is the term used to describe the metadata set which is required for DAISY 2.02 digital talking books. See "Metadata" in this Glossary.
- Build
- When the production of a book is fully complete the Build is the final step during which the archive and distribution copies are created. Also referred to as "Build Book".
- Byte
- Eight binary digits, containing 256 possible patterns of 1's and 0's; there are 1,000 bytes in 1 megabyte and 1,000 megabytes in 1 gigabyte.
