ADPCM
Acronym for Adaptive Delta Pulse Code Modulation. A type of Codec that typically offers about 4:1 audio data compression with relatively high audio quality. Various versions of ADPCM algorithms are generally and freely available. ADPCM2 is not the same as standard ADPCM. This 4 bit compressed format is proprietary and is included as an option in Sigtuna recording software. It is recommended that this codec not be used. Only DAISY playback devices can play this format.
Archive Master
Term used with LpStudio/Pro and Sigtuna DAR 3 for a DAISY project that has been stored without compression of the audio files, and which contains all of the DAISY DTB file set and the production tool project file, respectively .lpp and .lpo.
ATAU
Acronym for the Audio Text Addition Utility in Sigtuna DAR 3. This utility allows the producer to add text elements to an already existing ncc-only DTB. Text can be added manually or imported from an external document.
Audio and full text
DTB with structure and complete text and audio. This form of a DTB is the most complex to produce but provides the greatest level of access. The audio and the text are synchronized throughout the DTB.
Audio Export
With MyStudio PC, this is the process which exports the existing audio format to a different audio format, for example a project recorded in PCM can be exported into mp3 format. A new project is generated in this process.
Audio Import
With MyStudio PC, this is the process which imports existing audio files into the currently opened project.
Audio with NCC (Navigation Control Center) only
DTB with structure. The marked up text file contains the structure of the book and may contain links to features such as headings and page numbers, etc. The end user has direct navigation to points in the NCC.
Audio with NCC and partial text
DTB with structure and some additional text. The marked up text file contains the structure of the book and the text of components where keyword searching and direct access to the text would be beneficial, e.g., index, glossary.
Audio with title element only
DTB without structure. This is the simplest type of DTB and it is sometimes used for books where structure will not be applied. There are no navigation points within the DTB, therefore direct navigation to points within the DTB is not possible for the end user.
