- The Markup Definition File contains a listing of all of the elements and attributes, with their associated values, that are to be used as synchronization points with the XHTML source in a project. This list of elements is used to identify and select portions of the source XHTML files for the generation of the ncc.html file and .smil files for a project. Also stored in this file is information about the hierarchy associated with each type of element.
- .smil
- File extension for Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language. These files are created during the generation of the NCC. One smil file is created for each NCC entry. The smil files associate the text and the audio files creating the synchronization between the audio and the text which provides the DTBs navigation and which is one of the major features of a DAISY DTB.
- .wav
- A specific type of digital audio sound file format developed jointly by Microsoft and IBM. An industry standard audio file format. File extension is .wav.
