To open the "Edit screen", select "Edit screen" (F9) in the "Tools" pull down menu, or click the "Edit screen" button in the toolbar.
'Edit screen' button in the tool bar
The edit screen is made up of three main areas - the menu and toolbar, the working area and the status bar. The NCC.HTML file is shown in the NCC tree view to the left. The upper right window is the "Event list" which shows the details of the selected NCC item, such as text and audio "events". Below the Event List is the browser window where the synchronized XHTML document is shown.
If a book is a "ToC only book", the table of contents, or Navigation Control Center representing the NCC.HTML is shown in this browser window. The musical note icon in the folders in the NCC tree view indicates that the NCC item contains audio. This lets you know easily and quickly which NCC items contain audio and which do not.

The "Audio Clip Display" is at the bottom of the screen. The wave form of the audio events is shown in this display. When you navigate to an audio event which is coded in PCM or ADPCM2, the wave form for that clip is drawn in this display.
When the audio is played back, the peak meter control, located in the lower right of the screen, shows the current peak values and the current time position for the event.
The current NCC item will be highlighted in the browser display on the right when an NCC item is selected. When you move to another event or NCC item, the browser display and highlighting will change to reflect this.

When detailed audio wave editing is required, you can use the "Audio edit" function (CTRL+A), accessible in the "Tools" pull down menu on the "Edit screen". This editor displays the wave form of the selected event and is useful for very detailed audio editing such as the removal of unwanted noises in the recorded audio or slight adjustment. Any changes to the audio data also affect the SMIL file.
