Entry of Bibliographic Information

If the bibliographic information is available digitally on the Internet, the entry will be quite easy. The DAISY 2.02 specification uses 15 bibliographic metadata items defined in the Dublin Core (DC) metadata Initiative, which is internationally approved and broadly accepted.

Requirements for bibliographic metadata are established for DAISY 2.02 book production. Other organizations such as IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations), also set bibliographic standards and recommendations. Accurate metadata will assist with collection management and the exchange of DAISY books.

The "Publication Metadata" dialog, which is the list of the metadata items, is displayed. Enter the information.

There are two options in 'Modify NCC's metadata' dialog. One is "Select character set manually from list:" and the other is "Do not include encoding pseudoattribute or meta http-equiv element". The character set is set when creating a project, however, it is possible to change it by checking the check box for "Select character set manually from list:" and select a desired character set from the list. It is also possible not to include "meta http-equiv" element by checking the check box for "Do not include encoding pseudoattribute or meta http-equiv element". It is not recommended to change any options after creating a project.

There are four buttons, from the left; "Add New (Ctrl+N)", "Modify (F2)", "Duplicate (Ctrl+C)", and "Delete (Del)", at the bottom of the 'Modify NCC'S metadata' dialog. You can create a new meta element with meta name "prod:" by selecting "Add New (Ctrl+N)". When you want to change the content of the meta name, choose the one you want to change and select "Modify (F2)". When you want to duplicate meta element, choose the meta name and select "Duplicate (Ctrl+C)". Since it is suggested not to have two different content for one meta element, you should have two different meta name for two different content. For example, if there are two authors for a book, you can duplicate "dc:creator" and input two names in the same meta name separately.

The following three sections provide clear instruction about the mandatory, the recommended, and optional items to enter as the bibliographic information (metadata) that is supported by the DAISY 2.02 specification.
There are two main types of metadata elements: dc: Items and ncc: Items. The "dc" elements contain information about the DAISY DTB itself according to the rules of the Dublin Core Initiative, and the "ncc" elements contain additional metadata about the DAISY DTB and its print source.
