By using the Save as DAISY add-in and Tobi, both of which are available free of charge, one can easily create text-only DAISY books. The workflow involves creating a structured Microsoft Word document, conversion to DTBook XML using the DAISY Translator and then creating a DAISY book using Tobi.

The most important job using this workflow is semantic mark-up of the text using styles. Make sure you read the Text mark-up guidelines for Save as DAISY before starting the process.

The creation of DTBook XML from Microsoft Word is described here: Convert a Word document into a DTBook.

Next you need to import the XML in Tobi to create a DAISY book. This process is described here: Tobi: Create text-only DAISY books
